It looks like you have made the brave decision to consider therapy. Let's start by giving yourself credit for this courage.
Thank you for visiting my page where you can get to know me and see if I may be a good fit for your needs. Evidence shows that your relationship with your therapist produces the best outcomes.
I have extensive experience working with adults utilizing a trauma informed lens and practicing cultural humility. I believe therapy is a powerful tool used towards social justice.
I have supported hundreds of women of color through pregnancy, childbirth and parenting whether it’s with their first or fourth child. Pregnancy and childbirth can trigger so many old and new feelings because of all the changes happening in the body.
Our minds and bodies are time machines and oftentimes your past experiences are a filter through which you see the present moment and it can sometimes feel very confusing. Feeling stuck or overwhelmed in just one part of your life can often start to affect other aspects of your existence. Low self-esteem or depression can creep into relationships, anxiety can keep you up all night, or relationship issues can impact your work performance.
Any combination of these issues often leads to patterns of behavior that may have helped you cope in the past but may no longer serve you. I am here to help you look beyond a diagnosis and help you find your way back to yourself. I have a special interest in those who are motivated to look deeper into themselves so that we can work towards long-lasting change together.
My focus is to help you heal, energize, and become aware of your inner strengths. Everyone is unique in their readiness for change and goals they see for themselves. To minimize symptoms I use Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MBCBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and to move into deeper work I'm certified by EMDR International Association in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I provide tools and share skills to manage distressing symptoms like anxiety or panic attacks, sleeplessness, hopelessness and am unafraid to help you work through your deepest fears and upsetting beliefs about yourself or your place in the world.
I am also trained in various other evidence-based therapy modalities and I use an integrative approach to incorporate them in a customized treatment specifically tailored to meet your needs. This occurs in a neutral, safe space where you are seen and heard.
I believe you are the expert in your own life. Therapy is collaborative work and we will help you heal and grow at your pace.
Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences can be a great place to start understanding where your conditioned reactions and behaviors may have began. Here is some more information on ACES. You may see how some of your experiences may contribute to your stress.
I have advocated for ACE screenings to be incorporated into primary care because I believe the mind and body are connected. This webinar is approved by CA State Attorney General, Dr. Nadine Burke Harris. Feel free to watch where I discuss the impact of ACES and how identification of intergenerational trauma may be incorporated into treatment.
